Connect SillyTavern

About a minute, no extensions. You need an account with credit (new accounts get US$1.00) and an API key from your account page.

1. Open API Connections

   Click the plug icon in SillyTavern's top bar.

2. Choose the API

   Set API to Chat Completion, then Chat Completion Source to Custom (OpenAI-compatible).

3. Paste the address

   In Custom Endpoint (Base URL), paste:

   https://api.smutwriter.com/v1

4. Paste your key

   In Custom API Key, paste the key that starts with sk-swm-.

5. Pick the model and connect

   Type smutwriter-v1 into Enter a Model ID (or pick it from Available Models), then press Connect. The status turns green.

6. Set the sizes

   Open AI Response Configuration (the sliders icon). Set Context Size (tokens) to 32768. Set Max Response Length (tokens) to 400–1000. Turn Streaming on.

7. Switch off what you no longer need

   Memory happens on our side, so you can turn off the Summarize extension and Vector Storage for these chats. Keep your lorebooks; World Info is still sent as usual.

Troubleshooting

• 401 invalid API key: copy the key again. Keys are shown once, so make a new one if it's lost.
• 402 balance is empty: top up on your account page. It works again as soon as the payment confirms.
• 429 too many at once: wait for a reply to finish, or switch off auto-continue.
• 503 temporarily offline: try again in a few minutes.
